Youth Transit Advocacy
Bringing Power to New York's Youth
As it stands, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), New Jersey Transit (NJT), and Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) do not have a youth advisory groups. This is a problem as the population becomes younger and younger by the day. The New York Youth Transit Advocacy Committee, or “NYYTAC,” seeks to change this through relentlessly advocating youth transit interest to public officials. We’re a group focused on raising the concerns of disabled, minority, and other marginalized folks to public officials at all levels. NYYTAC understands that transportation is the economic engine of any geopolitical area. Since we’re dealing with the New York Metropolitan Area, we’re talking about an economy larger than most countries. As young people continue to make up more of the labor force and contribute in greater amounts to the economic body of New York, we believe that these voices should be heard. It’s their right to.
The MTA has been beleaguered by natural disasters, inconsistent leadership, and economic crises. This isn’t lost on us. The future of the New York Metro-Area depends on the involvement of young people in all policy discussions. We were founded with the idea of including youth input in MTA policy making and governance.
We look forward to be your fiercest ally in transit policy.
